Dressed to Dance

Rich and colorful, Minho's costumes are unmistakable!

Viana do Castelo is the heart of Alto Minho and it is here that the most important of all pilgrimages, Senhora da Agonia,  takes place,

To understand why the pilgrimages are so important for the Minho people, we will visit the Costume Museum in Viana de Castelo, where we will get to know the different types of costumes. Next, we will go to the headquarters of the oldest folkloric group in the region, where we will learn how to dance the vira and other traditional dances. We will have the opportunity to try on the regional costumes and take fantastic pictures!

Mafalda’s days are a real whirlwind – this is because most of the time it is literally spinning. Since she was 3 years old she is officially part of the Areosa Ethnographic Group, as are her parents and before them her grandparents. In this group all the work is voluntary and Mafalda is in charge of all the dance workshops of this association. It is to see her standing lightly, smiling on her lips and arms in the air, teaching the turns of the turn!
