Minho is a Party

To the sound of the bombs parade cabeçudos (big heads) and gigantones (giants)!

The true minhoto (people from Minho) has party written al over his heart, his walk and his voice.

All occasions are good for dancing and parading and no parade can miss the drums and the cabeçudos: we will learn the fascinating story about what are they there for.

Then we will learn how to make a big head and make one ourselves, with the ancient papier maché technique, at the same time that we hear stories about the pilgrimages of now and in the past.

And as so much erudition can make you hungry, let’s enjoy some local snacks like the grilled chorizo and the region’s green wine!

José Aníbal Cruz belongs to the Areosa Ethnographic Group, where, like everyone else, he volunteers. Fascinated by the big heads, he decided to learn by himself how these figures are made. He did it so well that now he has no hands to measure for orders coming in from all over the world. Fortunately, he still has time and willingness to share his knowledge about this art of paper and glue!
